Many Dane County Parks have reduced light pollution and offer excellent opportunities for star gazing, viewing meteor showers, or witnessing other astronomical events. They also offer some of the best views of the northern lights when they are visible to southern Wisconsin. Brigham County Park and Donald County Park offer the darkest skies and best viewing spots in the Dane County Park System.
Normal park hours are 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. Park users that would like to visit after hours for star gazing can purchase a permit online and display the printed receipt face-up on the driver's side dashboard.
Clubs and groups are also welcome to host star gazing events in the park system and can obtain a special event permit to do so.
