The Phil Van Valkenberg CamRock to Glacial Drumlin Connector Trail Dedication and Groundbreaking Event

MADISON, WI – July 21, 2021 - Dane County has been partnering with the Village of Cambridge, Jefferson County, Friends of the CamRock to Glacial Drumlin Connector Trail and Cambridge Foundation for nearly 15 years on planning and development of a trail that will one day provide a continuous connection between CamRock County Park and the Glacial Drumlin State Trail.

“This project represents years of hard work, dedication and commitment to partnership,” stated Dane County Executive, Joe Parisi. “We’re thrilled to see it coming to fruition. We’re grateful to everyone who has put in the work to make this happen, and excited for the outdoor experiences it will provide for generations to come.”

In 2013, Dane County provided $73,000 in funding through their PARC and Ride grant program to develop the trail from CamRock County Park through the Village to STH 18.  Dane County provided a second PARC & Ride grant to the Village in 2018 for $209,250 for development of the next segment of trail that will be constructed from STH 18 to a future park on State Farm Road that was made possible by a generous land donation from the Cambridge Foundation.

The Friends of the CamRock to Glacial Drumlin Connector Trail have been leading the planning efforts for this trail and will be hosting a groundbreaking event on Sunday August 1st from 2:30-4:30 pm with a dedication ceremony at 3 pm. The event will be held at the Cambridge Winery, located on 700 Kenseth Way, Cambridge Wisconsin and will include live music, a silent auction and complimentary soft drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The trail is being named in honor of lifetime bicycle advocate and author Phil Van Valkenberg; Phil was also inducted into the Wisconsin Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2017.

The nearly 4 mile proposed connection between CamRock County Park and the Glacial Drumlin State Trail is the northern end of a much larger regional multi use trail identified in the County Parks and Open Space Plan that is envisioned to one day extend nearly 16 miles south through Silverwood County Park and beyond to the City of Edgerton.
