For Immediate Release
As of February 24, 2012, Dane County received approximately 2 to 4 inches of new snow. Snow depths were greater in southern Dane County. Unfortunately conditions are not favorable for grooming on County ski trails at this time. We encourage skiers to set their own tracks and make the best of this limited opportunity. Please be aware that some low-lying trails have had standing water on them. CamRock County Park, located between Cambridge and Rockdale in eastern Dane County, may offer the best skiing opportunity at this time.
Grooming is almost impossible when temperatures are at or above freezing, especially with the current conditions with the wet snow, no pervious snow base and little or no frost on many exposed trails. The equipment operation on the trail would most likely make conditions worse. If you have any questions please contact the Parks Office at (608) 224-3766. For the latest trail information you can visit the County Parks Website at www.countyofdane.com/lwrd/parks/ or call the Parks information line at 608-242-4576.
