Shoreland Mitigation

Erosion and uncontrolled stormwater runoff can have adverse impacts environmentally sensitive areas located around shoreland or wetlands (Shoreland Zone). To reduce these impacts, Dane County Ordinance Chapter 11 (PDF) requires a permit for specific land disturbing activities occurring within the Shoreland Zone. Use the links below to 1) determine if you need a permit, 2) link to permit application materials and tools, and 3) find out more information about the permit.

If your project falls within the Shoreland Zone (see map below) complete the following steps in order:

  1. Contact the Zoning Division to determine if a Shoreland Zoning Permit or a Shoreland Mitigation Permit is required.
  2. Apply for a Shoreland Erosion Control Permit or a Shoreland Mitigation Permit through our office.
